Not so long ago, Slovenia and Croatia were part of a single country, Yugoslavia. Then Slovenia gained independence and joined the European Union. Over time, so did Croatia. Now that both states are members of the most modern community in the world, with the best legal, democratic and civil rights system, a razor barbed wire fence was set up on the border between the two good neighbors. Formally designated as a technical obstacle, the fence is referred to by the official state PR office as “a deterrent”. In this pristine landscape, the military has drawn its frontlines.
